Aftercare Instructions
Taking care of your new tattoo is crucial to ensure it heals properly and maintains its quality. Tattoos are open wounds, and without the right care, complications can arise. Below is a simple and comprehensive guide on how to care for your tattoo.
Day 1 (Day of the Tattoo)
Keep the tattoo covered with the Derma Skin for 72 hours.
Avoid touching, or scratching the tattoo.
No swimming, hot tubs, or tanning. Keep away from direct sunlight.
You may shower, but try to keep the tattooed area as dry as possible.
Don’t wear tight or restrictive clothing on the tattooed area.
Day 3 (After 72 Hours)
Remove the Derma Skin (it may be easier to do this in the shower; use lukewarm water and peel slowly, avoiding hot water).
Gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap for 20-30 seconds. Avoid picking or scratching scabs; let them fall off naturally.
Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel or allow it to air dry.
Apply a thin layer of A&D Ointment to the tattoo. Repeat this 2-3 times a day for the next 2 days. Be sure to apply a light layer, as using too much can slow the healing process.
Day 5 (Ongoing Care)
Switch to a fragrance-free, non-oily moisturizer (e.g., blue cap Lubriderm) to keep the tattoo hydrated and continue moisturizing for at least 2 weeks to support proper healing.
Tattoos generally take 2-4 weeks for the surface to heal, but complete healing (under the skin) can take up to 6 months. During the initial 2-3 weeks, your tattoo will go through the stages of healing—peeling, itching, and scabbing. If you notice any signs of infection (excessive redness, swelling, pus, or pain), contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional immediately.
